Ingredients of Modakalu

  • 1 Cup rice flour
  • Cup grated coconut
  • 1 teaspoon powdered green cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 Cup powdered jaggery
  • 3 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

Dry roast the coconuts

  • To prepare this delicious recipe, take a pan and add grated coconut to it. Dry roast the coconut and keep it aside.
  • Take a new pan and fill it with 1 cup of water. Bring the water to a boil.
  • After that, add the jaggery and let it dissolve. Add the roasted coconut when the jaggery mixture begins to thicken.

Prepare a dough

  • Mix thoroughly and increase the heat to medium-high.
  • After that, add the cardamom powder and stir thoroughly. Turn off the flame after a few seconds, remove the mixture, and set it aside.
  • To make the dough, add the rice flour and hot water to a mixing container. Sprinkle with salt and safflower oil.

Steam the modak and relish!

  • To avoid lumps, stir the mixture thoroughly. It's important that the dough isn't very stiff.
  • Take a portion of the dough and roll it out into little cups with the help of a rolling pin. Fill the dough with a tablespoon of coconut-jaggery filling and seal the edges with your hands or with the help of modak moulds!
  • Cover and steam for 10 minutes. After that, remove the modak from the steam pan.
  • Place these little delicacies on a serving plate and drizzle with ghee once they've fully cooked. Serve!
